'Barney's Version,' 'Incendies' among the 10 selected

Two titles on the awards season radar, “Incendies” and “Barney’s Version,” have made the Toronto Film Festival’s 10th top 10 list of Canadian pics.

Selected by a 10-member national panel of directors, film journos, programmers and industry pros, the unranked list of features — most of which screened at the Toronto fest in September — was unveiled at an industry party Tuesday.

“For the past decade, Canada’s top 10 has championed homegrown success, offering filmmakers a platform for recognition and a stage for trailblazing future trends,” said fest director and CEO Piers Handling.

All films will screen in early 2011 at the Bell Lightbox, the organization’s new headquarters; Vancouver’s Pacific Cinematheque; and Ottawa’s Canadian Film Institute.

The top 10 features in alphabetical order are “Les amours imaginaires,” Xavier Dolan; “Barney’s Version,” Richard J. Lewis; “Curling,” Denis Cote; “The High Cost of Living,” Deborah Chow; “Incendies,” Denis Villeneuve; “Last Train Home,” Lixin Fan; “Modra,” Ingrid Veninger; “Splice,” Vincenzo Natali; “Trigger,” Bruce McDonald; “Trois temps apres la mort d’Anna,” Catherine Martin.
