Strand takes ‘Refuge’

Ozon pic due for Stateside release in spring

Strand Releasing has picked up U.S. rights to Francois Ozon’s “Le Refuge” with plans to release it in the spring.

Isabelle Carre stars as a woman who is expecting a child fathered by her late boyfriend; she retreats to a house outside Paris, where she bonds with her boyfriend’s brother (Louis-Ronan Choisy).

Ozon scripted “Le Refuge” with Mathieu Hippeau. Producers are Claudie Ossard and Chris Bolzli.

Film unspooled at Toronto and San Sebastian, where it won a special jury prize. Pic will have its U.S. bow at Unifrance’s Rendezvous with French Cinema in New York next month.

It’s currently screening for buyers at the European Film Market.

Deal was negotiated by Strand’s co-prexy Jon Gerrans and Le Pacte sales head Elisabeth Perlie.
