Fincher pic will open fest in India
David Fincher’s “The Social Network” will open the 12th Mumbai Film Festival, which will unspool Oct. 21-28.
Oliver Stone and Indian multi-hyphenate Manoj Kumar will receive lifetime achievement awards.
Highlights of the line-up that has 200 films from 58 countries include Semih Kaplanoglu’s Berlin Golden Bear winner “Honey” (Bal), Sofia Coppola’s Venice Golden Lion winner “Somewhere,” Li Hongqi’s Locarno Golden Leopard winner “Winter Vacation” and Agustí Vila’s “The Mosquito Net” that won the Crystal Globe at Karlovy Vary.
Jane Campion heads the jury (Daily Variety, Sept. 3) that will choose the winners out of 14 films by first-time directors in competition.
Thanks to the clout of fest backers Reliance, this year will also see a film business market with reps from Pathe, Studio Canal, Icon, Metro Films, IM Global, Fortissimo, MK2, Memento Films, Visit Films, Umedia, The Match Factory, Bavaria Films, Beta Films, Wide Management and YTV attending.
