Actor joins Swinton in helmer Ramsay's pic
John C. Reilly has boarded the cast of helmer Lynne Ramsay’s “We Need to Talk About Kevin.”
Reilly will play the father of a teenager who goes on a killing rampage. Reilly joins the previously announced Tilda Swinton, who plays the troubled Kevin’s mother.
The role of Kevin is still being cast.
Project marks a return to directing for Ramsay, whose last feature was Samatha Morton starrer “Morvern Callar” in 2002.
The Brit helmer is also penning the script, which is based on Lionel Shriver’s acclaimed novel about a boy who embarks on a horrific rampage two days shy of his 16th birthday. His actions lead his parents to question whether they ever loved him and how much they are to blame for his actions.
The film is produced by Jennifer Fox alongside Luc Roeg. BBC Films’ creative director Christine Langan and Paula Jalfon developed the project. Steven Soderbergh is exec producing along with Langan and Jalfon.
Roeg’s Independent Film Co. has picked up the international rights and is pre-selling the project at EFM.
