MADRID — Viacom’s network Nick Jr. has nabbed U.S. broadcast syndication rights to multi-award winning CGI pre-school series “Pocoyo.”
“Pocoyo” is scheduled to premiere this spring on Nick Jr., Nickelodeon’s educational pre-school channel.
Deal was brokered by “Pocoyo” producers, U.K.’s ITV Studios Global Ent. and Madrid-based Zinkia.
It follows another commitment recently inked by producers with toymaker Bandai which converts Bandai into “Pocoyo’s” master-toy licensee for North American market.
Series follows the adventures of 3-year-old Pocoyo (“Little me” in Spanish) and his animal friends, the elephant Elly, the duck Pato and the dog Loula.
Since its debut in 2005 on ITV, “Pocoyo” has aired in more than 100 territories. It’s also become a multi-platform brand worldwide, having sold more than 2.7 million toys, 1.3 million books and shifting more than 1.4 million DVD units.
“Pocoyo” international nods include a BAFTA award for animated pre-school series and the Annecy Cartoon Festival’s Grand Prix, both in 2006.
