Gallic sales and distribution company Le Pacte has acquired street artist Banksy’s documentary “Exit Through the Gift Shop” for France and is also backing Israeli helmer Ari Folman’s upcoming “The Congress,” which has Robin Wright Penn attached to star.
“Exit Through the Gift Shop” earned a strong reception following its world preem at Sundance and chronicles the celebrated artist’s friendship with French videographer Thierry Guetta, who aspires to become an artist himself.
The famously elusive Banksy is only shown in shadow and has his voice modified throughout the film, which is narrated by Rhys Ifans. Jaimie D’Cruz produced and Holly Cushing and James Gay-Rees served as executive producers.
Cinetic is handling worldwide rights. Revolver has acquired U.K. rights.
Folman’s “The Congress” is based on Polish author’s Stanislaw Lem’s “The Futurological Congress,” about a world where hallucinogenic drugs have replaced reality. Le Pacte, France’s Les Amateurs and Germany’s Pandora Films are backing the project.
