Fortissimo Films has acquired worldwide rights outside Germany, Russia and the CIS to Cannes competition title “My Joy.”
The Ukraine-German co-production marks the debut feature for director Sergei Loznitsa. Pic tells the story of a truck driver who gets lost in the Russian countryside and tries to find his way back to civilization but eventually becomes drawn into the daily life of a rural village.
Fortissimo’s managing director Nelleke Driessen made the deal with Heino Deckert from production outfit ma.ja.de.
Belarus-born Loznitsa has most recently worked on historical documentary features such as 2005’s “Blockade” and 2008’s “Revue.” “My Joy” marks the Ukraine’s first-ever Cannes competition entry.
