'Life After' wins big at Rome Fiction Festival

Estonian TV drama “The Class: Life After,” about the aftermath of a school shooting similar to the Columbine High School massacre, was the big winner at the fourth Rome Fiction Festival dedicated to scripted TV content, which wrapped Saturday.

Harrowing seven-part skein scooped nods for TV drama and dramatic actor (Marcus Prangel). Produced by Gerda Kordemets for Estonia Public Broadcasting and the European Broadcasting Union, “The Class” is emerging as a major Euro prizewinner; it’s also taken the top prize at Switzerland’s Cinema Tous Ecrans.

Claire Danes took the prize for actress in a drama for her role in HBO’s “Temple Grandin” for which she is also Emmy-nommed. Jason Priestley, also on hand, won for actor in a comic skein for his role as a car salesman in “Call Me Fitz,” from Canada’s E1.

Rome saw plenty of Hollyood shows with talent in tow.

Erika Christensen came to promote the pilot of NBC’s “Parenthood” and “Treme” protags Wendell Pierce and Khandi Alexander tubthumped the HBO serial drama.
