Doc on ‘Inside’ track

SPC to release Cannes-bound doc

Cannes-bound documentary “Inside Job,” an analysis of the 2008 global financial crisis from “No End in Sight” helmer Charles Ferguson, will be released by Sony Pictures Classics, which owns worldwide rights to the pic.

In keeping with its title, details of the project were largely kept under wraps before Thursday’s Cannes official selection announcement. Docu will have its world premiere as a special screening at the May fest.

Taking stock of the worst recession since the Great Depression, “Inside Job” was lensed in the U.S., Iceland, England, France, Singapore and China over the past 1½ years. Narrated by Matt Damon, pic was produced by Ferguson and Audrey Marrs through their Representational Pictures Co. and exec produced by Christina Weiss Lurie.

Pic reps another topical nonfiction work for Ferguson, a political scientist whose Oscar-nominated 2007 debut, “No End in Sight,” examined the failures and miscalculations behind the U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq.

Sony Classics will also be on the Croisette with two out-of-competition entries, Woody Allen’s “You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger” and Stephen Frears’ “Tamara Drewe.”
