Piers Morgan appears to be one step closer to landing the “Larry King Live” time-slot on CNN.
According to insiders, a deal has been struck with NBC that will allow Morgan to take the CNN job while remaining in first position as a judge on the Peacock’s reality competish “America’s Got Talent.”
Even though “Talent” gets priority for Morgan’s time, CNN will likely be able to work around his schedule.
Morgan has been the rumored leading contender for some time — even prior to King’s announcement last month that he’d be ending his 25-year show.
If he does get the gig, it would come just weeks after CNN U.S. topper Jon Klein hinted to both Broadcasting & Cable and online journal Mediaite that the cabler had “never negotiated with Piers,” and that “it’s not worth talking about.”
In Morgan, CNN would get a known commodity with plenty of TV interviewing chops. He’s hosted interview shows in the U.K. and in the U.S. is known as a “Talent” judge and as a winner of “Celebrity Apprentice.”
