Palestinian helmer Hany Abu-Assad has been appointed president of the jury for the 2010 Doha Tribeca Film Festival.
Abu-Assad, whose 2006 pic “Paradise Now” won the Golden Globe for best foreign language film and was nominated for an Oscar, will be the first jury prexy of the fest, which held its inaugural event last year.
Helmer will preside over the fest’s Arab Film Competition awarding prizes for Arab Film and Arab Filmmaker.
On accepting the invitation, Abu-Assad remarked: “It’s an exciting time for filmmakers in the Middle East and this festival provides a unique opportunity to meet and showcase their work.”
The second annual DTFF unspools Oct. 26-30 in Qatar.
