Warner Bros. Entertainment has inked a U.K. film distribution agreement with online European film and TV subscription service Lovefilm.
The multi-year pact will see Warner Bros.’ fledgling movie subscription video-on-demand service, WarnerFilms, debut on Lovefilm’s player, which streams pics onto TVs.
WarnerFilms will provide on-demand access to 28 films a month, including “Batman Begins,” “Zodiac,” “The Matrix” and “The Wedding Singer,” with seven titles added every week.
Additionally, new releases such as Sandra Bullock starrer “The Blind Side” and “Clash of the Titans” will be made available to Lovefilm members on the same day as the retail DVD release. They will be available to rent by mail on DVD and Blu-ray 28 days later.
The deal also will see a large collection of Warner Bros. U.K.’s new releases offered on Lovefilm via VOD for non-members of the service, which is similar to Netflix in the U.S.
It’s the first studio VOD deal for Lovefilm, which has more than 1.4 million members in the U.K., Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Germany.
The deal is contracted for two years with WarnerFilms and physical rental through the site, and three years for VOD.
Lovefilm said it is in talks with other studios for similar deals.
