LONDON — Cable outfit Virgin Media is the latest U.K. firm to bow an online film service aimed at the local market.
Virgin Media Online Movies will offer hundreds of films including “District 9,” “Fantastic Mr Fox” and “Twilight: New Moon.”
Competing with the likes of LoveFilm and Blinkbox, Virgin is charging £3.99 ($6) for a recent release while older pix cost less.
Movies are available to watch streamed via a PC or laptop for a 48-hour rental period and can be paused and rewound.
Users do not have to be Virgin Media subscribers.
Alex Green, executive director, commercial, TV and online at Virgin Media, said: “We’ll continue to develop the service by adding download functionality, even more titles and a great choice of HD films to the lineup.”
