MILAN — Italian viewers will be able to see TV in 3D for the first time next month with Sky Italia’s coverage of Ryder Cup golf.
All Sky subscribers with both an HD decoder — around half of them — and a 3D TV set will be able to watch live coverage of the final day’s play on Oct. 3 in 3D, the broadcaster announced on Friday.
The move follows Sky’s broadcast of 3D Premier League soccer in the U.K. in January. For the moment the company’s plans for 3D programming appear limited to sport.
However, Sky Italia chief Tom Mockridge
told journalists: “I believe that Italy has a real opportunity to see a burst of growth on the back of the creative use of such technology.”
