‘Last Night’ to open Rome film fest

Romantic drama stars Knightley and Mendes

Massy Tadjedin’s romantic drama “Last Night,” starring Keira Knightley and Eva Mendes, will open the fifth Rome Film Festival.

Another much-awaited title in the official selection of the Eternal City fest, which made the announcement Thursday, is the John Cameron Mitchell-helmed bereavement drama “Rabbit Hole.” Nicole Kidman, Dianne Wiest and Aaron Eckhart star.

The fest’s youth-oriented section will host the premiere of the first Italian film in 3D, Iginio Straffi’s “Winx Club 3D — Magica Avventura.”

This year the Focus section spotlights Japanese cinema and culture with tributes to Akira Kurosawa on the centenary of his birth. Rome fest, which runs Oct. 28-Nov. 5, will also include an onstage conversation between thesps Margherita Buy and Silvio Orlando.
