Hodges, Ekland join Edinburgh jury

Kardish, Pitts judges for Michael Powell Award

LONDON — Helmer Mike Hodges and former Bond girl Britt Ekland will join the Michael Powell Jury at this year’s Edinburgh Intl. Film Festival.

Gotham’s Museum of Modern Art’s senior film curator Laurence Kardish and Iranian director Rafi Pitts (“The Hunter,” “It’s Winter”) will also join the jury’s president, Patrick Stewart, to decide the winner of the £15,000 ($22,000) Michael Powell Award, sponsored by the U.K. Film Council.

Nominees for this year’s prize are: Ashley Horner’s “brilliantlove,” Hattie Dalton’s “Third Star,” Paul Andrew Williams’ “Cherry Tree Lane,” Edward McHenry and Rory McHenry’s “Jackboots on Whitehall,” Nick Moran’s “The Kid,” Bernard Rose’s ” Mr. Nice,” Viv Fongenie’s “Ollie Kepler’s Expanding Purple World,” Karl Golden’s “Pelican Blood,” Nick Whitfield’s “Skeletons” and Shimmy Marcus’ “Soulboy.”

Previous recipients of the award include “Moon” helmer Duncan Jones and Brit auteur Shane Meadows for his coming-of-age pic “Somers Town.”

“Harry Potter” thesp Jason Isaacs, comedian-director Ben Miller and producer Lynda Myles will head up the jury for the Projector.tv Best International Feature Award, which will see a non-U.K. feature nab a $7,400 prize.

British Independent Film Awards director Johanna von Fischer, film critic Miles Fielder and EIFF artistic director Hannah McGill will award the $7,400 Moet New Directors award to a first- or second-time filmmaker in the Rosebud and British gala sections, while a further $7,400 award will be awarded to the feature documentary award, decided by “Man on Wire” producer Simon Chinn, journalist Geoff Dyer and “Act of Dishonour” director Nelofer Pazira.

A further UKFC sponsored prize of $1,500 will go to the best short of the competish.

The 64th EIFF kicks off tomorrow and runs until June 27.
