Aim is to take advantage of Hollywood fare
BRUSSELS — Gallic multiplex chain Gaumont Pathe will add four digital Imax screens to its Europalaces theaters under a deal inked Tuesday.
New screens in suburban Paris, Lyon, Rouen and Toulouse should be operational by the end of June.
Deal structures installation as a joint venture between Imax and the exhibitor.
Aim is to take advantage of incoming Hollywood fare, with systems capable of screening both 2D and 3D.
Gaumont Pathe has 74 theaters in France, with one digital Imax screen in Paris. In 2009 the group expanded its Imax offer in Holland with three new screens.
“Our Imax theaters in France and the Netherlands have increased admissions in each of the complexes where they are located,” said Europalaces topper Franck Lebouchard.
He predicted a strong demand for Imax in France, particularly for films such as “Harry Potter,” “Avatar” and “Alice in Wonderland.”
