BERLIN — Deutsche Telekom has launched Germany’s first 3D TV offering as part of its video on demand platform. The new service is available immediately to subscribers of Deutsche Telekom’s IPTV Entertain package. Entertain customers can call up a variety of content via Videoload, the platform’s online video store, which offers round-the-clock access to 3D movie highlights from the likes of Warner Bros. and Sony Pictures Television. Current and upcoming offerings include blockbuster hits like “Clash of the Titans” and “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs,” as well as “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1” and “Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore.” Also available will be Discovery Channel programming, erotic content and past sporting events such boxing and the opening game of the 2010 International Ice Hockey Federation World Championship — which, in May, became the first major sporting event broadcast in 3D on Entertain. The Entertain service comprises more than 130 TV channels, an online video store and a TV archive of some 15,000 titles (of which 1,500 are available in HD), in addition to around 2,500 national and international radio stations. Deutsche Telekom’s main pay TV rival, Sky Deutschland, announced last week plans to launch its own 3D channel in October showcasing sport, film, documentary fare and event programming.
