Chinese helmer Li Hongqi’s “Winter Vacation” took the top Red Chameleon Award including $16,700 cash at the fourth Cinema Digital Seoul Festival (CinDi), which wrapped Tuesday.
Pic also won the top prize at Locarno Film Festival earlier this month.
Helmers Apichatpong Weerasethakul and Raya Martin, hyphenate Zhang Xian Min and actress Moon Sori were on the jury.
Japanese film “Miyoko,” helmed by Yoshifumi Tsubota, won the Blue Chameleon Award, given out by international film critics, while Korean crix and journos prized Chinese toon “Piercing I,” directed by Liu Jian, with the Green Chameleon. Three rookie filmmakers — Ham Kyoung Rock, Jang Cheol-soo and Ryu Seong-kyu won the chance to have their next projects developed with CJ Entertainment, host company for the fest, in the new Butterfly section, which helps discover and nurture Korean talent.
Opening with “Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives,” the seven-day fest screened 105 films from 27 countries, including 15 in the Asian Competition.
