Norwegian box office rises 13.5%

2009 gross totals record-breaking $186 million

STOCKHOLM — Norway generated an all-time record box office gross of kroner 1.041 billion ($186 million) last year, 13.5 % higher than 2008.

Admissions were 12.7 million, up 6.8 % on 2008.

The higher ticket price charged for 3D pics like “Avatar” explains the difference between the two figures.

The top 10 pics last year were “Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs” ($13 million), “Max Manus” ($11 million), “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” ($8.5 million), “Avatar” ($8.1 million), “Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince” ($8 million), “The Girl Who Played with Fire” ($7.8 million), “Angels and Demons” ($5.3 million), “Up!” ($4.6 million), “Christmas Night at Blue Mountain” ($4.3 million) and “New Moon” ($4.3 million).

B.O. in Norway has risen by more than 70% in the past decade, up from $100 million in 2000.
