Maybe the G in PGA should stand for green.
The Producers Guild of America has launched a website to help producers work in sustainable ways.
Going by the name greenproductionguide.com, the site offers a searchable database of environmentally correct suppliers across the U.S. — including hotels, prop houses and construction services — as well as best-practices guides for departments such as camera and craft services, and a downloadable carbon calculator.
Disney, Fox, NBC Universal, Sony Pictures and Warner Bros. provided seed funding for the project.
“I strongly believe that sustainability needs to be part of our everyday vernacular, and I’m extremely proud that the industry has successfully collaborated to launch the Green Production Guide,” said PGA prexy emeritus Marshall Herskovitz. “We are grateful for the tremendous studio support behind this vital initiative.”
The site’s initial database includes more than 1,500 vendor listings provided by members of the production community, who report positive experiences with their products and services. In the future, producers and suppliers will be able to propose additions to the list.
“The Producers Guild, led by the passionate and dedicated PGA Green Committee, has worked very closely with the entertainment community to launch the Green Production Guide,” said PGA exec director Vance Van Petten. “We’re confident that the Green Production Guide will be an invaluable tool to everyone in the business, from producers to studios alike.”
