Net inks first international distribution deal

PARIS — Rainbow Media’s Sundance Channel has inked its first international distribution deal.

Channel will go out on Gallic cable broadband operator Numericable.

The rollout entails an initial video-on-demand launch followed by channel debuts in standard- and high-definition TV.

“Through the power of popular culture, Sundance Channel programming can provoke thought and foster understanding of worlds apart from our own,” said Sundance founder Robert Redford. “All of this makes the launch of Sundance Channel Intl. in France particularly exciting and important to me,” he added.

Acquired by Rainbow Media in May, Sundance Channel reaches 30 million U.S. subscribers while Numericable covers 9.5 million households in Gaul.

The multi-platform pact fits Numericable’s commitment to delivering high-quality programming in a choice of formats.

Sundance Channel will air in English with French Subtitles.
