Nonscripted series crops 'Green Acres' twist
Planet Green’s greenlight has shone on “Beekman Farm,” a nonscripted series with a modern-day “Green Acres” spin about two New York City expatriates who head upstate to run a farm.“Beekman” will mix rural business and irreverence in its focus on Josh Kilmer-Purcell, an ad exec and drag queen who wrote the books “I Am Not Myself These Days” and “Candy Everybody Wants,” and his partner Brent Ridge, a doctor who has served as VP for healthy living for Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, as the pair seek to develop a line of organic products under the Beekman 1802 brand. Randy Barbato, Fenton Bailey and Tom Campbell of World of Wonder are exec producing the series with Lynn Sadofsky and Planet Green production and development senior veep Jeff Hasler. Ten episodes have been ordered for a spring premiere. “Their eccentric, extended friends and family dynamic reveals to viewers that trying to live the simple life isn’t so simple after all,” said Planet Green prexy-g.m.
