‘Late’ vet upped to exec producer

Matt Roberts promoted on 'Letterman'

Matt Roberts has been upped to exec producer on “The Late Show With David Letterman.”

Roberts has been with “The Late Show” since its inception on CBS in 1993, serving as a segment producer, talent researcher and, most recently, as a writer and supervising producer. He came into the Letterman fold as an intern in 1992 on NBC’s “Late Night With David Letterman.”

Roberts joins Barbara Gaines, Jude Brennan, Maria Pope and Rob Burnett as exec producers on the latenighter produced by Letterman’s Worldwide Pants shingle.

Burnett, who heads Worldwide Pants, called Roberts “one of the most talented producers I have ever met” in announcing the promotion. Roberts observed that given the long tenure of many of Letterman’s top producers, “The ‘Late Show’ really is like a family, albeit one which, in keeping with contemporary office protocol, has rules prohibiting hugging.”
