With guest star Katie Holmes making an appearance on its 100th episode, “So You Think You Can Dance” defeated its primetime competition to give Fox another Thursday night win.
“Dance” (2.9 rating/9 share in the 18-49 demo, 8.4 million viewers) improved slightly upon last week’s numbers but was the second-most watched of the evening behind a repeat of CBS’ 10 p.m. summer stalwart “The Mentalist” (2.0/6, 9.5m). The Eye’s reality player “Big Brother” (2.0/7, 6.4m) won the 8 o’clock hour.
NBC finished out the Thursday run of “The Listener” (0.9/3, 3.3m) with the venerable “Law & Order” taking over the 10 o’clock slot for the Peacock next week.
“Samantha Who?,” which began promisingly in October 2007 but was hurt by the long hiatus created from the writers strike and multiple timeslots, ended its two-season run with back-to-back episodes and little fanfare (0.9/3, 3.3m).
Also of note, Spanish-language network Univsion drew a higher rating and share than CBS. During the summer, Univision often performs better than ABC or NBC, but this was the first time in recent memory it defeated CBS.
Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: Fox, 2.2/7; Univision, 2.0/6; CBS, 1.9/6; NBC, 1.1/4; ABC, 0.8/2; CW, 0.5/2.
In total viewers: CBS, 7.8 million; Fox, 6.9 million; Univision, 4.5 million; NBC, 3.0 million; ABC, 2.8 million; CW, 1.2 million.
