Hong Kong’s nowTV gets All Sports

Channel features American NFL, NHL

HONG KONG – Hong Kong pay-TV operator nowTV Thursday announced a carriage deal for All Sports Network, a new Asian regional channel currently being launched by Hong Kong-based Yes TV.

The 24-hour channel, which features American sports coverage including the National Football League and the National Hockey League, will be available immediately for HK$80 ($10) a month.

“The value of sports content, particularly North American sports, is growing rapidly across Asia,” Thomas Kressner, CEO of ASN, said. “ASN is also available in HD and the service is expected to be rolled out in Asia later this year.”

Sports broadcasting has become a strategic tool in Hong Kong’s increasingly competitive pay-TV sector. NowTV has been looking to augment its sport lineup ever since rival cabler i-Cable locked in lucrative rights for UEFA Champions League soccer as well as the 2010 World Cup in 2007.
