CBS’ '60 Minutes' was night’s most-watched program

On a Sunday night in which nine hours of primetime broadcast network programming failed to achieve a 1.0 rating among adults 18-49, Fox notched an understated victory in the demo, while CBS did the same in overall viewers.

Sunday’s most noteworthy offering, the first segment of two-part NBC miniseries “Meteor,” caused few reverberations on the planet, drawing a 1.1 rating and 3 share in 18-49 and 5.0 million viewers overall, according to preliminary nationals from Nielsen. “Meteor” didn’t get much help from lead-ins “Great American Road Trip” (0.7/3, 2.7 million) and “Merlin” (0.9/3, 3.6 million).

By comparison, the CW’s 8 p.m. airing of the 23-year-old “Hoosiers” (0.3/1, 1.1 million) was defeated but not exactly routed.

“Family Guy” (2.1/6, 4.4 million) was the night’s topper in the demo, leading Fox’s six-pack of comedy reruns. Four, including two episodes of “The Simpsons,” finished in the 18-49 top five, while the sole live-action entry, “‘Til Death” (0.6/2, 1.4 million), was Fox’s poorest performer.

CBS’ “60 Minutes” (1.0/4, 7.9 million) was the night’s most-watched program, even though it did not make the top 10 in the demo. However, its lead-out, a new episode of “Big Brother” (2.0/7, 6.8 million), finished second in 18-49.

Reruns of “Cold Case” (1.1/3, 5.6 million) and “Without a Trace” (1.1/3, 6.0 million) on CBS performed meekly at 9 and 10 p.m. but on par with “Meteor” and ahead of ABC’s “Desperate Housewives” (0.7/2, 2.5 million) and “Brothers and Sisters” (0.5/2, 2.1 million).

ABC fared just slightly better in the evening’s earlier hours with “America’s Funniest Home Videos” (1.0/4, 4.6 million), a new “Just for Laughs” (1.1/4, 4.4 million) and a repeat “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” (1.3/4, 5.0 million).

Bringing up the rear on Sunday was a CW rerun of “Valentine” (0.2/1, 0.6 million).

Sunday also offered the season premiere of HBO’s “Entourage,” whose numbers are scheduled to appear Tuesday.

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: Fox 1.5/5, CBS 1.3/4, NBC 0.9/3, ABC 0.9/3, Univision 0.7/2, CW 0.3/1.

In total viewers: CBS 6.6 million, NBC 4.1 million, ABC 3.5 million, Fox 3.1 million, Univision 1.6 million, CW 0.9 million.
