NBC's 'Loser' continues to perform well

Behind another solid edition of “American Idol” and freshman hit “Fringe,” Fox won the Tuesday night ratings race handily. NBC’s “The Biggest Loser” continued to perform well for the Peacock, which came in second, and a lineup full of repeats was good enough for CBS to place third.

The behemoth that is “American Idol,” where the remaining seven contestants had to perform disco songs, earned an 8.0 rating/22 share in the 18-49 demo, with 23.2 million viewers tuning in, making it by far the most watched show of the evening according to preliminary nationals from Nielsen. That, along with “Fringe” (4.1/10, 10.5 million viewers), was more than enough for Fox to hold off the Peacock.

A two-hour “The Biggest Loser” (3.8/10, 9.3 million viewers) earned its biggest demo numbers since Feb. 3 and built on every half-hour from 8 to 10 p.m. From its first to last half-hour, “Biggest Loser” grew 50% in the 18-49 demo.

ABC and CBS offered sitcoms in the 8 o’clock hour. A pair of “According to Jim” episodes scored a 1.0/3, 3.7 million viewers for the Alphabet while Eye laffers “The Big Bang Theory” (1.6/5, 6 million viewers) and “Two and a Half Men” (1.8/5, 6.7 million viewers) were repeats.

The results show of “Dancing With the Stars” (3.2/8, 14.4 million viewers) came in third behind “The Biggest Loser” in the 9 o’clock hour. CBS’ rebroadcast of “NCIS” (2.8/7) still drew 12.3 million viewers, making it third most-watched show of the night.

A special Tuesday airing of ABC’s rookie police series “The Unsuals” (1.3/4, 5.3 million viewers) didn’t fare well at 10 p.m., falling below the performance of last Wednesday’s episode. The network has high hopes for the series but early numbers would seem to make its future doubtful.

The CW offered up “Reaper” (1.0/3, 2.4 million viewers) and “90210” (1.1/3, 2.2 million viewers), with its Chicago and St. Louis affiliates pre-empting those shows for sports coverage
