Adding to cable’s growing list of dessert-oriented programs, TLC is adding “Ultimate Cake Off” to the mix.
It’s the second cake show on the net. “Cake Boss,” a nonscripted skein about a family-run bakery in Hoboken, N.J., is TLC’s top-rated show behind reality juggernaut “Jon and Kate Plus 8” and will end its first season on Aug. 17. Hourlong “Ultimate Cake Off” will fill the 10 p.m. Monday timeslot.
Weekly competition series will have three different cake artists creating edible entries, with a winner determined in each episode.
Cabler has greenlit eight episodes, with the first airing Aug. 3 and then the series continuing on Aug. 31.
Michael Schulson, chef at Izakaya restaurant in Atlantic City, N.J., will host. Judges are sugar artist Margaret Braun and Leigh Grode, owner of Cake Divas bakery in Los Angeles.
In addition to the two cake shows now on TLC, Food Network recently completed the sixth season of “Ace of Cakes.”
