Syfy sets date for ‘Caprica’

'Battlestar' prequel series to bow on Jan. 22

Syfy has set Jan. 22 as a premiere date for its highly anticipated series “Caprica.”

Skein is a prequel to the cabler’s “Battlestar Galactica,” which just concluded its fourth and final season on March 20.

“Caprica” storyline predates “Battlestar” by 58 years and stars Esai Morales, Eric Stoltz, Paula Malcomson and Polly Walker.

The pilot — written by Ronald Moore and Remi Aubuchon, helmed by “Friday Night Lights” house director Jeffrey Reiner and completed last year — is two hours. Syfy has ordered an additional 20 hours and it’s unknown whether they’ll be split into two seasons.

Production on the second episode began July 15 in Vancouver. Jonas Pate is directing.

“Caprica” will air at 10 p.m. Fridays. Series is from Universal Cable Prods. and is exec produced by Moore, David Eick and Jane Espenson.
