Sarah Barnett has been tapped exec VP and g.m. of Sundance Channel.
At the network since 2005 as senior VP of marketing, Barnett will add digital, programming and scheduling to her responsibilities. She will report to Evan Shapiro, president of IFC and Sundance, both under the Rainbow Media umbrella.
“We’re building on the success of the last four years,” Barnett told Daily Variety. “The future of the network is to appeal to a sophisticated audience and lead the conversation. My vision is to open the storytelling with shows that can’t be found anywhere else.”
Sundance recently greenlit a second season of talkshow “Spectacle: Elvis Costello With …,” which will restart in December, and has high hopes for “Brick City,” a five-hour docu series that takes a look at the citizens and mayor of Newark, N.J. Net will preem “Brick City” in September and is touting it as a documentary version of HBO’s “The Wire.”
