Sony Pictures VP of finance Phil Midiri died June 29 in Los Angeles. He was 58.Midiri began his career with CBS Records in New York after graduating from City University of New York’s Baruch College in 1972. Midiri spent several years in Australia before returning Stateside to join Par’s L.A. studio operation in 1982. From Par, he worked for several home entertainment companies, including Virgin Video, Academy and Media Home Entertainment. In 1995, Midiri launched the first condom retail chain, Condomania, in L.A. and San Francisco. He continued with Sony Music through 2001 where he represented the company at MIP-TV, Mipcom and other international markets, as well as serving as VP of A & R administration, working on products such as Art Garfunkel’s “Songs From a Parent to a Child” and the homevid, “Mama, Do You Love Me?”. He is survived by a sister.
