Network sets ad meets for early May

NBC plans to get a jump on the network upfront presentations once again.

But unlike last year, when the Peacock’s series of “infront” meetings with advertisers took place in April, the net is moving the gatherings closer to the traditional May upfronts.

NBC Entertainment/Universal Media Studios co-chairs Ben Silverman and Marc Graboff, as well as top programming lieutenants Angela Bromstad and Paul Telegdy, will highlight the net’s programming plans in meetings with advertisers May 4 and 5 in New York.

The quartet will then head to Chicago on May 7 and take the show to Los Angeles on May 12.

The decision to move the meetings into May came at the request of advertisers, who told the network they’d like to see more tape of NBC’s new series at the meetings.

In many cases last year, the Peacock had decided to go directly to series and not shoot pilots, which left advertisers without a good idea of what first-year series would look like.

NBC execs are still determining whether they’ll lock in a fall schedule by the May 4 meeting or just give an overview of what the net’s fall lineup is expected to be.

Peacock is also still mulling over its plans for the actual upfront week — which this year begins May 18 in New York.

Network probably won’t throw the same kind of big “NBC Experience” party it threw last year. It may also have to find another day for whatever presence it does decide to have: With NBC no longer throwing a presentation on the Monday of upfront week, Fox has taken over the day.

NBC said its decision to continue its “infront” meetings a few weeks before the traditional upfronts is part of its plan to get advertisers thinking early about marketing partnerships.

This year’s meetings actually began in January, when advertisers met with Peacock programmers at the Super Bowl in what the net dubbed a “Superfront.”
