Duo plans to invest $100 million in content

Los Angeles-based NALA Investments and talent management agency Latin World Entertainment have teamed up to form NALA Entertainment with plans to invest $100 million to develop and produce Spanish-language TV content.

The company aims to produce up to 400 hours of programming its first year, including two skeins and a couple of telenovelas.

First out the gate is “El Diez” (The Ten), a kind of “Entourage” set in the world of soccer. Shot in Mexico, skein centers on a fictional soccer star dealing with all the trappings of his fame.

“The series is a strong example of how we can integrate brands given the fact that an event like the World Cup 2010 is right around the corner,” said LatinWE CEO Luis Balaguer.

NALA Entertainment is forming strategic alliances with a host of Latin American producers, among them top Mexican indie Argos Communications, with whom it is developing a telenovela.

“In a time when network production budgets are shrinking, NALA Entertainment offers a valuable solution by becoming an independent provider of quality material and formats,” said NALA Investments chairman and CEO Emilio Diez Barroso, who sits on the board of Summit Entertainment.

NALA Investments is the parent company of NALA Films, which co-produced “In the Valley of Elah,” “The Air I Breathe” and “Dan in Real Life.”

Based in Miami, LatinWE represents a stable of Latino stars including Sofia Vergara, Angelica Vale, Myrka Dellanos, Raul De Molina, Barbara Bermudo and Fernando Fiore. It produced TV shows including VH1’s “Viva Hollywood,” “Amas de casas desesperadas” (“Desperate Housewives”), “Tigres del Norte From Vegas” and Univision’s “Viva La Familia! de Todobebe.”
