ID to launch six series

'Prison Wives' sentenced to join diverse slate

Investigation Discovery, approaching its second anniversary Jan. 27, will launch six new series in the first quarter of 2010, including the 13-part documentary “Prison Wives.”

Henry Schleiff, president and general manager of ID, said the new skeins “expand the scope of investigation programming for the network.”

Prison Wives,” focusing on 12 women and one man whose spouses are behind bars, will debut with a three-hour special timed for Valentine’s Day (a Sunday) before shifting into its regular Wednesday timeslot.

Premiering on back-to-back nights Jan. 11-12 are “Disappeared,” a missing-persons doc, and “I (Almost) Got Away With It,” telling the story of criminals who lived on the lam for years before being caught.

ID will launch two series with diverse appeal Feb. 5: “America’s Small-Town Secrets,” offering case studies on the effect of unsolved crimes on close-knit communities, and “Living with the Dead,” which explores supposedly haunted houses in the U.K.

Finally, “Mystery Files” premieres March 6 with a series of episodes focusing on famous unsolved historical mysteries and legends, dating back to Cleopatra.

The new programs, along with returning skein “Cold Blood” (Jan. 7), will pick up the ID primetime baton from “On the Case with Paula Zahn,” “The Bureau” and “The Shift,” each of which air their season finales between Jan. 13-20.
