Cable network remaking popular Japanese show

G4 is launching a Yankee version of one of Japan’s favorite shows.

Comcast cabler has greenlit “American Ninja Warrior,” which will focus on 10 U.S.-born competitors who travel across the Pacific to challenge Sasuke, the world’s most difficult obstacle course.

Half-hour series, which will premiere in the fall, is produced by Craig Piligian’s Pilgrim Films. Piligian is exec producer of reality stalwarts “American Chopper,” “The Ultimate Fighter” and “Dirty Jobs.”

G4 currently airs “Ninja Warrior” weekdays at 3 p.m. — a rebroadcast of Japan’s “Sasuke,” which is produced by the Tokyo Broadcasting System.

Production will begin in August and the net will offer an open tryout for contestants in Los Angeles.
