Marketing vet to capitalize on franchises
Longtime marketing exec Robert Marick has been tapped to head up 20th Century Fox TV’s multimillion-dollar licensing and merchandising division.Marick takes over a position that oversees the licensing and merchandising for both film and TV at 20th Century Fox. Big franchises he’ll now handle include “The Simpsons,” “Ice Age” and “Family Guy,” as well as frosh hit “Glee” and the upcoming “Avatar.” Exec reports to 20th Century Fox TV chairs Gary Newman and Dana Walden, who announced his appointment Monday. In tapping Marick — who started immediately — Newman said he saw “numerous opportunities to expand our licensing and merchandising activities.” “Robert has done outstanding work on building global businesses and franchises for such companies as Disney, Time Warner and Mattel,” Newman said. “We know he’ll bring a fresh perspective to this vitally important area of our company.” Marick replaces Elie Dekel, who ankled 20th earlier this year after four years in the job. Dekel has since joined Saban Capital Group as a managing director. With Marick as head of licensing and merchandising, his domain includes expanding TV and film properties into themed entertainment, literary publishing, interactive gaming and consumer products. Marick previously spent more than a decade at Disney, working in consumer products, music and home entertainment. He oversaw more than 200 licensees, and handled brands such as “Disney Princess,” “High School Musical” and “Hannah Montana.” Marick also spent time at WEA and Mattel Toys.
