EM.Sport scores a new name

Licensing group morphs into Constantin Medien

BERLIN — Licensing group EM.Sport Media morphed into Constantin Medien today following its merger with Swiss sports rights trader and film distrib Highlight Communications, parent of German entertainment company Constantin Film.

Constantin Medien will be a leading player in sports rights and film and TV production and distribution in German-speaking Europe.

The group’s single biggest shareholder is media mogul Leo Kirch who, despite the bankruptcy of his vast media empire in 2002, managed to retain a major stake in Highlight.

In 2007, Kirch swapped his 36.4% stake in Highlight for an 11.5% stake in EM.Sport Media, plus some $170 million in cash, and began forging merger plans for the two companies.
