Worked for Syufy Enterprises, Cineplex Odeon

Exhibition and distribution vet James C. Cargile died after a long illness April 7 in Oak Park, Calif. He was 71.

He began his career in the film industry with Cooper Highland Theaters in Kansas.

In 1964 he left Kansas and went to Northern California to work for Syufy Enterprises, where he spent the next 22 years, first as a manager for the Salinas Drive-in, then as a district manager in the East Bay and finally as a film buyer in the home office in San Francisco.

After moving to Southern California, he worked with Cineplex Odeon Theaters as a film buyer and then served as general sales manager for Cannon Releasing, retiring in 1991.

Born in Kansas, Cargile served in the U.S. Navy and later attended the U. of San Francisco.

He is survived by his wife Lynne Francis, two brothers, a son, a daughter and two grandchildren.
