Discovery pulls into ‘Garage’

Channel greenlights 'Wars' series

Discovery Channel has greenlit the series “Garage Wars,” which pits mechanics against one another to find the best fix-it shop in America.

Described as a mechanical version of “Project Runway,” the series has been given a 10-episode order by Discovery.

A. Smith and Co. (“Hell’s Kitchen”) are behind the show.

“Garage Wars” will follow garages in three different cities as they compete in a bracketed competition.

Each week, the two teams will be given a box filled with identical parts — such as motors, pieces to a hovercraft or other items. Their challenge is to build a vehicle better than their competitor’s in just four days.

At the end of the episode, the machines will be put to the test and judged by a panel of experts.

Four garages in each city will battle it out to become the local champ. The city winners will then face each other in the finale and compete for a large prize.

Discovery and A. Smith are currently looking for two car experts to be the hosts of “Garage Wars.”

Pickup comes just weeks after Discovery dusted off its old “Monster Garage” franchise, which will return as “MG: Motor City.”

A. Smith’s Arthur Smith, Kent Weed and Frank Sinton exec produce “Garage Wars,” as well as Tod Mesirow. A. Smith’s other credits include “Kitchen Nightmares,” “I Survived a Japanese Game Show” and the upcoming “Crash Course.”
