Exec is director of Schweizer Fernsehen

Ingrid Deltenre, director of Swiss pubcaster Schweizer Fernsehen, has been tapped to head the European Broadcasting Union, the largest association of national broadcasters in the world.

Dutch-born Deltenre will succeed Jean Reveillon as director general at the beginning of 2010.

Reveillon, who has headed the EBU since 2004, decided not to seek an extension of his six-year mandate, which ends in January, the EBU said Friday.

Deltenre takes over during a demanding time for the union’s 75 active and 43 associate members as they face the daunting technical, editorial and financial challenges of the digital age, grapple with the consequences of the economic slowdown and deal with increasing competition from the commercial sector and ever tougher European Union laws regulating public broadcasting.

Before taking the reins at SF, Deltenre held a number of high-profile posts, including director of advertising sales giant Publisuisse; chief marketing officer for credit-card group Swisscard AECS; publishing director at the Cash business newspaper; and secretary general of Swiss press association Verband Schweizer Presse.
