Pre-Emmys party brings out nominees
Strolling through Saturday’s Evening Before party was similar to channel surfing through your favorite TV shows. The Century City soiree drew a sea of skein stars in which Mad Men mingled with Gossip Girls.
Inside the party Jeffrey Katzenberg chatted with Kiefer Sutherland, Alec Baldwin introduced daughter Ireland to Mariska Hargitay, Stephen Colbert joked around with Ricky Gervais, while Chuck Lorre congratulated Matthew Weiner on “Mad Men’s” success.
The Motion Picture and Television Fund’s third annual fund-raiser remained a laid-back affair — so laid back, in fact, that “Hung” star Thomas Jane showed up sans shoes (a decision he may have later regretted after stepping on a screw soon after his arrival).
Major League Baseball gave guests a chance to take a swing at winning two tickets to the World Series by setting up a batting cage inside the party. Thesp Troy Garity held tight to the top spot with 16 consecutive hits only to be knocked down to second place by another guest just after midnight.
Partygoers appeared to be having so much fun tasting food from JAR, enjoying free makeup applications by Revlon and playing games in the People magazine booth that even after DJ Bizzy stopped spinning tunes late in the night, cast members from “Entourage,” “The Office” and “How I Met Your Mother” could still be spotted schmoozing.
The amount raised will be disclosed later, but Saturday’s event apparently brought in more than the previous two fetes. Organizers said they were especially pleased to see such generosity at a time of economic hardship, which shows support for the Motion Picture and Television Fund and its works.
