'As The World Turns' among honored programs

The American Federation of Television & Radio Artists have honored “As The World Turns,” “Randy Jackson Presents America’s Best Dance Crew” and “HawthoRNe” with American Scene Awards, recognizing programming that portrays diversity in a positive and realistic light.

The awards ceremony, now in its 15th year, took place Friday at the union’s national convention in Chicago.

“As the World Turns” won the daytime drama award, the Randy Jackson series took the reality/talent competition trophy and “HawthoRNe” garnered the TV dramatic programming kudo.

Chicago’s ABC7/WLS-TV won the Belva Davis Crystal award and New York’s WNYC took the radio trophy. “Chicago Tonight” was awarded the Telvision News Program kudo.

“We Shall Remain,” part of Boston’s WGBH Educational Foundation’s series “American Experience,” received the documentary award. St. Louis’ KMOX won the radio programming award for “Voices of St. Louis” and St. Louis’ KMOV-TV took the public service announcement award for its Diversity Awareness series.

The Television News Feature award went to “Here’s To Life,” produced¬† by Pittsburgh’s WPXI-TV.
