ABC seizes Michael Seitzman

Drama scribe signs two-year pact

Scribe Michael Seitzman has inked a two-year script commitment with ABC Studios.

Seitzman penned two drama scripts that went to pilot last year for ABC Studios: family dynasty drama “Empire State” for ABC and “House Rules,” about freshmen lawmakers in Congress, for CBS. Both were produced with the Mark Gordon Co., home of “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Criminal Minds,” which is also based at ABC Studios.

Seitzman said he intends to pen two pilots in the coming development season, and he’s in the process of winnowing his candidates from a host of ideas that he’s been kicking around to develop under his Michael Seitzman’s Pictures banner. He’s happy to be back in biz with ABC Studios, saying his experience on “Empire” and “House” was “the single best experience of my career” as a scribe.

Seitzman set his focus on TV last year after most recently working in the feature realm, writing such pics as 2005 Charlize Theron starrer “North Country.” Among his upcoming projects is “The Chancellor Manuscript” at Paramount, with Leonardo DiCaprio attached to star and Marc Forster to direct.

But as TV has grown hungrier for drama in recent years, the appetite has diminished in the feature world for the kind of adult-themed drama that is Seitzman’s specialty.

“The audience that I tend to write for doesn’t go to the movies anymore, so I’m going where they are, which right now happens to be in their living room,” he said.

Seitzman is repped by WME.
