Telecinco making plans for ‘Reunion’

Warner Bros. TV sells rights to Spanish network

Warner Bros. Television has sold local adaptation rights to reality TV format “High School Reunion” to Spanish broadcast network Telecinco.

The web will produce the Spanish version with Madrid-based indie production hose Zeppelin TV.

Riffing off the original, which aired for two years on the WB Network and now shows on TVLand Stateside, the retread turns on a vacation-set high school reunion, where real-life former classmates confront each other, here 15 years on.

Series promises to dish the dirt on who really slept with whom and, as in its U.S. model, present a confrontation between the school bully and his geek victim.

The school chosen for the reunion has yet to be announced.

“What until now was only possible via social networks such as Facebook will now happen on Telecinco,” the web announced Friday.

“Reunion” is a budget-conscious way for Telecinco to refresh its reality TV lineup. Aired in 2000, the finale of the first season of “Big Brother” pulled in 8.1 million viewers, while the 10th season bowed out with 3.8 million in January.

Although Telecinco has reupped for an 11th season of “Big Brother,” a new reality TV hit would help out the Mediaset-owned network, which saw first quarter ad revenues plunge 37% to E152 million ($212.7 million).
