New exec to serve as VP of programming
Former NBC exec Teri Weinberg has hired the first exec at her new Peacock-based production shingle.
Rachel Israel has joined Weinberg’s Yellow Brick Road, where she’ll serve as VP of programming. Israel was most recently manager of comedy programming at NBC; she also worked in the net’s alternative department.
Israel and Weinberg have worked together since 2004, when Israel joined Reveille (where Weinberg was then based) as an intern and later Weinberg’s assistant.
Israel quickly rose to director of scripted programming at Reveille. When Weinberg moved with Ben Silverman to NBC in 2007, Israel came along.
“She exemplifies my taste and has an incredible work ethic,” Weinberg said. “She’s also very well read and has amazing relationships with talent.”
Israel will be charged with finding material for Yellow Brick Road and is already meeting with writers and scouting talent at comedy showcases.
In launching Yellow Brick Road, Weinberg’s aim is to do character- and story-based fare in both the comedy and drama arena.
Weinberg is an exec producer on NBC’s upcoming “The Philanthropist”; she also is a co-exec producer on “The Office” and an exec producer on “Ugly Betty” and “The Tudors” thanks to her time at Reveille. Weinberg helped develop series such as “Community” before departing NBC earlier this year.
Yellow Brick Road is set up at NBC Universal under a two-year, first-look deal.
