Comedy series averages 2.13 million viewers

The sun shines bright on FX’s “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.”

The edgy cable comedy ended its fifth and highest-rated season yet on Thursday with a season finale that hit 1.01 million viewers in its target aud of men 18-34, which FX said was an all-time series high. Episode was also the night’s top-rated cable show in adults 18-34 (1.31 million).

Show posted 1.68 million viewers in the 18-49 bracket, making it No. 2 behind the NFL Network’s Steelers vs. Browns faceoff. Episode attracted 2.13 million total viewers.

“Sunny’s” fifth season was its strongest ever, averaging 1.79 million total viewers — up 36% from last season. The 12-episode season also averaged 1.42 million adults 18-49 (up 52%) and 1.1 million adults 18-34 (up 49%).

“Sunny’s” new companion, frosh laffer “The League,” averaged 1.2 million total viewers and 963,000 adults 18-49 in its season one finale for the show’s second-best marks in both measurements.
