‘Northern’ lights up Lifetime

4.5 million tune in to Nora Roberts adaptation

“Northern Lights,” Lifetime’s latest Nora Roberts adaptation, premiered to 4.5 million viewers Saturday, making it the network’s top-performing telepic so far this year.

Strong ratings were perhaps enhanced by tabloid reports of an on-set romantic relationship between stars LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian.

Among Lifetime’s target female demos, the Mandalay-produced pic garnered 1 million women 18-49 and 1.2 million women 25-54, making it one of the best-performing telepics on cable this year among femme viewers.

Encore runs of “Northern Lights” are skedded through the rest of the week and will lead into “Midnight Bayou,” the second of four Roberts adaptations slated over the next month on Lifetime.

Meanwhile, on Friday, “Battlestar Galactica’s” anticipated two-hour series finale scored 2.4 million viewers for the newly rechristened SyFy Channel.

The finale garnered 1.7 million males 18-49, the best perf in that demo on cable or broadcast Friday night for any non-sports broadcast.
