Show comes from Sony Pictures TV, scribe Sikowitz
NBC has given a premium script order to a half-hour project from Sony Pictures TV and sitcom scribe Mike Sikowitz.
Brothers Anthony and Joe Russo will direct and exec produce the pilot along with Bryan and Sean Furst of Furst Films.
Project, tentatively dubbed “Slacker Sons,” revolves around two twentysomething brothers who stumble into riches when they create an energy drink. They wind up buying their family home and bailing out their divorced father when he’s laid off from his corporate job.
Sikowitz is an exec producer on the Sony-produced CBS laffer “Rules of Engagement.” His other sitcom credits include “Friends,” “Grounded for Life” and “The Class.”
The Russos are in-demand as comedy helmers, having directed the pilot and other segs of Fox’s “Arrested Development” and, most recently, the pilot for NBC’s “Community,” on which they are also exec producers for Sony Pictures TV.
The Fursts have been most active in the feature realm as producers on pics including 2003’s “The Cooler” and 2005’s “The Matador.” They’re also working on a series project, “Tough Trade,” with “Weeds” creator Jenji Kohan for Lionsgate TV and nascent pay cabler Epix (Daily Variety, Feb. 11).
