Exec to represent talent of comicbook biz
American Original has added Rich Marincic to its ranks to represent talent as well as help companies navigate the comicbook biz.
American Original was formed earlier this year by Jeff Katz, an established comicbook scribe (behind such books as DC Comics’ “Booster Gold”) and former production exec at New Line and Fox, where he helped develop “Freddy vs. Jason,” “Snakes on a Plane,” “Shoot ‘Em Up” and “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” before venturing off on his own to produce genre fare for multiple platforms.
Company operates a publishing arm, through a pact with comicbook publisher Top Cow Prods., as well as a film and TV production unit.
With the addition of Marincic, American Original also has what it calls a “branding” division, which consults for companies looking to produce comicbook properties and helps individual talent produce projects that target genre fans.
Marincic’s title is VP of branding and representation.
An initial client roster includes Blair Butler, host of “Fresh Ink” on G4’s “Attack of the Show!” series; Kiwi comicbook creator Richard Fairgray, a nearly blind scribe behind “Blastosaurus”; and Chris Monfette, a writer for entertainment and gaming website IGN.com.
Marincic most recently developed film and TV projects based on Platinum Studios’ library of comicbooks at the company, where he set up several projects at Universal, DreamWorks, NBC, Fox and MTV and oversaw the production of “Dead of Night,” starring Brandon Routh of “Superman Returns.”
